Johannes in Dublin

At the end of January 2007 the headquarters of Na Piobairi Uilleann (Irish Uilleann Piping Society) were re-opened after a long period of restauration work. Johannes followed the invitation of NPU and had the honour and the pleasure to strike up a few tunes together with Jerry O'Sullivan during the opening ceremonies.

The Whisht!-CD

The Whisht!-CD is coming along nicely. But, as is the nature of things, it's taking longer than planned. A date has been set for the final mix and we're optimistic that we'll have the finished CD in our hands by Easter 2007. So, we'd ask all those who are waiting for it to bear with us just a little longer.

Eitorf

On 18 November 2006 we played in the Kino Blau-Weiss in Eitorf. A nice cinema atmosphere and a full house.

A street party on 15 September in Augustastraße in Duisburg. Regina Elling (Flute) lives just around the corner, so she dropped by and joined us for a couple of sets. Thanks very much Regina!

Steinau an der Strasse

Sabrina tripped on the stairs and hurt her foot. Fortunately for all concerned, she was able to play sitting down. So, after the initial shock, our gig in the the Rathauskeller in Steinau a.d.Strasse, a lovely little town, went very well and a good time was had by all. Many thanks to Jürgen and his crew!

...on the following day Sabrina got a plaster cast.

Venner Folkfrühling

Dieter Wasilke and his many helpers have put together a wonderful festival with an atmosphere that brings back memories of the good old times. We were lucky enough to play there on 14 May.

Bonner Irish Folk Festival, Paddy's Day Rüsselsheim, Eltzhof Köln-Wahn

Our second appearance at the Bonner Irish Folk Festival. This time we were joined by Franjo Zenz on keyboards (thanks very much Franjo!). We opened our concert with a new set of tunes from our CD, and we had the audience on our side right from the start. The whole festival was a great success!

Super atmosphere again in Eltzhof on 25.03.06 in Köln-Wahn. The first time around it was great, ... this time, even better.

St Patrick's Day spirits were high at the Paddy's Friday Festival on 17.03.06 in Rüsselsheim....our spirits were up there with them.

12.03.2006
Kelkheim + Neuss
Our concerts in Kelkheim and Neuss were the first of four in March. On 17.3. we'll be playing for St. Patrick's day in Rüsselsheim and on 25.3. you can see us in the Eltzhof in Köln-Wahn.

The audience was great in the Jazzclub Kelkheim. We very much enjoyed the cosy event in this long-established venue. We got the first advance orders for our CD, and from now on you can also send advance orders by e-mail to info@whisht.de.

The Jugendzentrum in Neuss was packed out. Super atmosphere! During the break and after the concert we talked shop with some of the audience. After our final encore, a group of 15 or so avid cajon fans got together around Holli ”Dr” Ries, who gave a short but informative lecture on the instrument. In Kelkheim and Neuss, for the first time, we also dared to tackle the seven-fold ”way-hey” with our audiences at the end of our final song ”Sally Brown”; both passed the test with flying colours.

05.02.2006
Sömmerda

A good time was had by all in Sömmerda. Together with An Tor, we played there for this year's Irish Night in the Volkshaus. After our joint finale, with all musicians back on stage, we rounded off the evening with a spontaneous session in a nearby pub, Zum Brunnen, that took us into the early hours.

The Whisht! CD is coming...watch this space…

In January we spent some time in Artes-Tonstudio in Esslingen, where we recorded our first tracks. If all goes well, the long-awaited CD will hit the shelves this year.

Our last gig in 2005 and our first in 2006

We played our first gig in 2006 at the 9th Irish Folk Night in Senden together with Five Alive 'O and local band Foggy Dew - a big event with an audience of about 800, a huge stage and a great atmosphere.

On 16 December we played in Bungertshof for the second time to a full house. The Christmas feeling lent a nice touch to our last concert for 2005. We were also lucky enough to be accompanied once again by our two step dancers, Antje und Anike (...no photo, unfortunately). At the end of the evening we invited everyone to join us in a shanty and, ‘[...] the audience sang the refrain with so much power that we should have been awarded a sailing permit’, said Michael A. Schmiedel in his concert review, ‘and a special mention should go to the Irish Step Dance performed by two young ladies by the names of Antje and Anike, who brought a hint of the big dance shows to the restaurant.’ <translation from German original>

More concerts in spring 2005

...in the very pleasant atmosphere of the Celtic Night in Alzey-Weinheim on 06.05.2005:
"Wonderful music, humorous quips, Irish Music specialists, a colourful range of instruments - in short: a special treat for the band's ever-growing following. [...] The audience [...] were taken on a journey from one end of the Green Isle to the other, one of a kind and as jaunty as you could wish for. There was hardly a foot to be seen that was not tapping away, keeping time with the musicians. [...] But "Whisht" wowed its audience not only on a musical level. Between the songs and tunes you could not fail to notice the ever-present taste for humour, and the audience's rapture over the lively troop grew ever more intense." /Allgemeine Zeitung 10.05.2005 (translated from German original)
